As part of the “KUNSTSTOFFSTRASSE” event series organized by the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, interested residents had the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at Wirthwein Medical GmbH & Co. KG.
Following an introductory and informative company presentation by Tobias Müller, Head of Administration and Logistics, the event focused on plastics processing for diagnostic, medical, and pharmaceutical applications. How is a highly complex plastic part manufactured? What does the raw material look like? Which manufacturing processes are used, and why is plastic a practical material in many fields? These and other questions were discussed together and answered in detail.
The presentation highlighted the great value of plastic as a material. Not only is it versatile and lightweight, but it is also extremely sustainable when processed correctly. Practical examples were used to demonstrate that plastic is indispensable in modern medicine and pharmaceuticals and plays a central role in the manufacture of high-precision products. During the subsequent tour, visitors had the opportunity to deepen the theoretical knowledge they had acquired right on the spot in our production areas. They were able to experience cleanroom manufacturing, material processing, toolmaking, and logistics up close. The insights into ISO Class 7 cleanroom production were particularly impressive.
The “KUNSTSTOFFSTRASSE” in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district is one of a kind worldwide. In addition to exciting museum exhibitions on the history and versatility of plastics, plastic-processing and manufacturing companies are also opening their doors to interested visitors. It becomes clear that plastic is a material that not only played an important role in the past but also offers innovative solutions today and in the future.
