The new certification according to ISO DIN EN 14001:2015 proves the responsible handling of natural resources at Wirthwein Medical GmbH & Co. KG.

Wirthwein Medical GmbH & Co. KG expands its quality management system by the globally approved standard for environmental management systems

With the successful certification according to DIN EN ISO 14001:2015 Wirthwein Medical further continues to live up to its environmental management system. For many years, Wirthwein Medical as a family-owned company has been responsibly implementing the three pillars of sustainability - ecology, social affairs and economy.

The central goals of Wirthwein Medical are to create sustainable added value, to reduce the consumption of resources and to further improve working conditions for employees. "With the introduction of the environmental management system, we are underlining our demonstrably environmentally conscious actions. For example, we have been able to reduce the number of chemicals used in manufacturing by more than half. At the same time, we have achieved further improvements in the separate collection and proper disposal of the waste generated. To ensure that employees have a contact person for occupational safety at all times, additional safety officers have been appointed at all three plants. The environmental management system certification is a further step of Wirthwein Medical's continuous positive development", says Dr. Sabine Moter, quality and project manager for certification at Wirthwein Medical.

"Sustainability is not just a short-term action for us, but is firmly implemented in our daily work at Wirthwein Medical. It is important to anchor a sustainability culture in the company, which enables the implementation of concrete measures. For example, we have been able to achieve significant energy savings per unit of plastic processed, partly by consistently replacing injection molding machines with new electric machines. At the same time, the introduction of the environmental management system has put us in an even better position to keep pace with extensive regulations. A long-term focus on sustainability in line with our corporate principles as well as long-term customer and supplier relationships are key foundations for the success of a family-run company," adds Dr. Thomas Jakob, Managing Director of Wirthwein Medical GmbH & Co. KG.
